Joy to the World

We don't normally put Christmas decorations up until after Thanksgiving, but Christmas music is already playing in my home and I love it! This arrangement of Joy to the World is simple and joyful and so much fun to play. It definitely gets me excited for the holidays.

When I Am Baptized

My daughter turned 8 years old last week and has chosen to be baptized a member of our church this weekend. We are so excited for her! Her primary aged cousins will be singing this arrangement at her baptism. This is one of mine and Brad's favorite primary songs. I think it will be perfect for her special day.

Hallelujah

Our little town received over 14 inches of snow this past weekend. Needless to say, it is starting to look and feel like Christmas already! It is definitely putting me in the mood to play and arrange more Christmas music.

Hallelujah has been one of my favorite songs for as long as I can remember. It is so simple and so beautiful. And then I heard this Christmas version and fell in love with it even more! I had to make an arrangement because I love it so much.

God is Love

My nephew is leaving on a mission for our church in a few weeks to St. George Utah. This past Sunday was his last talk in his home ward before he leaves and we were happy to be there for him. I was also able to write this arrangement for his mom, my sister-in-law, and her dad to sing together. They did a wonderful job singing! It is a beautiful hymn and I loved coming up with an arrangement for them.

Passion

I wrote this song several years ago after a friend of mine passed away from her battle with cancer. It made my heart ache to see her husband and children go through that loss. She was an amazing person. She battled cancer off and on most of her life, but she was always happy. She always tried to look on the bright side of things. She kept pursuing worthy goals and she kept living! She impressed me so much. She lived her life with passion. I hope I can do the same.

Just Be

It's been a while since I've posted an original song and I'm excited to start sharing more original piano solos. I was inspired to write this song after a fun meeting with a lot of young women and a life coach. The life coach was very inspiring and motivating in helping those young girls love themselves for who they are and stop comparing their lives with other people. I know this is a message for anyone at any age.
It's so important to just be YOU! I'm all for setting goals and improving ourselves, but when it comes to comparisons and unattainable expectations it needs to stop. We are all amazing and unique and important in our own individual ways. Accept and love yourself. Be OK to just be you.

Amazing Grace

This is one of my favorite songs. The melody is so simple and so beautiful. And the words are wonderful! They run through my head over and over while I play this. This song brings me closer to my Savior and helps me to better feel His amazing grace.

I Feel My Savior's Love

Recently an old friend reached out to me to help compose a choir arrangement of this song. These tasks are always daunting to me because I honestly don't know a whole lot about choir or choral arrangements. I'm really kicking myself now for not singing in choir in high school! But I do love a challenge and the opportunity to learn more about music. So here is my attempt.

This is truly one of my all time favorite primary songs. I love it so, so much. I love the simple truth it teaches children that our Savior's love is all around us, that He freely gives us that love no matter what, and that He is always there for us. It's so beautiful.

O Holy Night

This is definitely one of my most favorite Christmas songs ever. Several years ago I heard my sister-in-law (who has one of the pretties voices I've heard) sing a version of this song and I've been in love with it ever since. It's such a powerful song, but it's peaceful at the same time. My favorite words of the song that I think about when I'm playing this solo are:

"The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend.

He know our need, to our weakness is no stranger
Behold your king
Before Him lowly bend
Behold your king
Before Him lowly bend"

Our Savior was born to bear our trials and to be our friend. He suffered everything imaginable while He was here on Earth so that He could relate to each one of us. He is no stranger to the weaknesses we have or the trials we face. He knows how to help us and He will help us.
The night our Savior was born was truly a holy night.

What Child Is This?

I've always loved the melody of "Greensleeves" and the words written for "What Child Is This?" greatly add to the beauty of the music.

"This, this is Christ the Kind,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary."

Away In A Manger

This tune is the sweetest little lullaby. It is so tender and something I love to hum to my children when they cuddle with me. The lyrics are also beautiful and make me think of our Savior as a sweet little baby, starting his perfect life here on Earth for us.

Angels We Have Heard On High

This is such a joyful Christmas song! When you sing or listen to this song can't you just imagine the angels singing "gloria!" to all the world? I love it so much.

"Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo."

I love the melody to this Christmas carol so much. It is one of my absolute favorite Christmas songs. It's so simple, beautiful, and touching. I hope this piano arrangement conveys those same feelings to you.

The First Noel

Christmas is right around the corner and I'm really looking forward to the holiday season! I've been working on some Christmas hymn arrangements and I'm excited to share them here as the holiday approaches.
I love the Christmas season. I love the focus it gives me on my Savior. It brings me so much joy!

The Family Medley

My sister-in-law lost her father-in-law this past week and she asked me to write a medley for the funeral. I was honored to be able to do that for her and her family. We used the songs Families Can Be Together Forever, The Family is of God, and I Feel My Savior's Love. I love the way it came together.
Losing loved ones is very difficult, but it's these simple primary songs that remind us how much our Heavenly Father and Jesus love us even amidst really hard trials, that life doesn't end when we die, and that we have the opportunity to see our loved ones again and be with them forever.

Stars Were Gleaming/Angels We Have Heard on High

I have a new calling as primary pianist for my church and I love it! I love the primary songs so much. They are so simple and they teach the children so much about the gospel. For Christmas this year we decided to combine the songs Stars Were Gleaming and Angels We Have Heard On High for the children to sing in Sacrament meeting. They did a great job!

Silent Night

I love traditional Christmas music and Silent Night is one of my favorite Christmas hymns. It is so beautiful and peaceful and helps me really picture the night our Savior was born. How calm and serene that night must have been. How special that little baby that Mary held was and is. How bright the stars must have shone. How wonderful and merciful our Lord is. I love my Savior.
I'm so grateful for the Christmas season when we are able to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and for beautiful music like Silent Night that helps us remember the true meaning of Christmas.

How Great Thou Art

This song is a beautiful reminder of the greatness of our God. He is all knowing, all powerful, and perfect. And He loves us! He loves us so much that not only has he given us a beautiful world to live in, surrounded us by amazing wonderful people, but He has also given us His only begotten son, to be an example to us and to sacrifice for us so that we can live with Him again and be with our families eternally. What an amazing blessing. I hope we can all take time to sit back in "awesome wonder" and "consider all" the wonderful and glorious things God has made for us and done for us. Our souls will then truly sing.

Grandma's Medley

A few weeks ago my family and I had to make a last minute trip out to Idaho because we had learned that my mother-in-law had passed away. We have been left shocked and saddened by the news but take great comfort in knowing that families can be together forever and we will see and be with her again.
She loved hearing her grand-kids sing the primary songs so I put together a medley for her for the grand-kids to sing at the funeral. I included the songs: If the Savior Stood Beside Me, I Love to see the Temple, I Know My Father Lives, and Families can be Together Forever. All of these songs are a tender reminder for me of the plan of salvation. Through this trial of losing my mother-in-law, my husband losing his mom, and my kids losing their Grandma, I know that the Savior will stand beside us and help us all through it. I know that because my in-laws, and my husband and I, have been married and sealed in the Temple we can have an eternal life of happiness all together. I know that my Heavenly Father lives and wants me to return to Him and to my other family members who have passed and I can do that as I keep the commandments. And, most importantly, I know that families can be together forever.
All the grand-kids did a wonderful job singing the song! I was so proud of them!

God Be with You Till We Meet Again

When I was 16 years old my Grandmother passed away. She had requested that all her grandchildren sing this song, God Be with You Till We Meet Again, at her funeral. It was a hard song to sing then and every time since that I've sung it I can still feel that feeling of sadness and loss. I've been wanting to write an arrangement of this song for her for a long time.
It was a hard arrangement to write at first because it made me think of her, and the other loved ones I've lost since then. But the more I played it the more peace it brought me. I thought of my Grandmother singing it to me, praying that God will be with me until I see her again, knowing that I will need His presence in my life to get to where she is and to be with her again.
I'm so grateful for the knowledge I have that we will be together as families forever. Although the temporary separation is so hard when a loved one leaves this life, it is only temporary and we will see them again.

Kade's Lullaby

A dear friend gave me a wonderful lullaby CD before I had my oldest child, Kade. I listened to it a lot while I would rock my sweet little newborn Kade to sleep throughout the day and night. I listened to it so much that this tune and these words to this little lullaby came to me for my baby Kade. I finally added accompaniment for it so I can share this song with others.
Since I don't have a beautiful voice singing the words on the recording I'll leave the words here:

Hush, sweet Kade, hush.
Calm your troubled mind.
Hush, sweet Kade, hush for me,
and gently close your eyes.

Then dream of things,happy things.
The things you'll do, the things you'll see.

Hush, sweet Kade, hush for me,
my child, my love, hush.

Sleep, my Baby, sleep.
Sleep here in my arms.
Sleep, my baby, sleep for me,
and dream about the stars.

Just dream of things, happy things.
The things you'll do, the things you'll be.

Sleep, my baby, sleep for me,
my child, my love, sleep.

My child, my love, sleep.

Courage to Stand

When I was in High School there was a Reflections contest that I decided to enter. The theme was Courage, and I came up with this song for it. It really has become my theme song. I love playing it. It helps me release any of my bad feelings and resolve to do better, be better, progress, and improve. It gives me courage to stand up for what I believe in and who I am.

I Know That My Redeemer Lives

"I know that my Redeemer lives.
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead.
He lives, my ever-living Head."

"He lives to silence all my fears.
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart.
He lives all blessings to impart."

The words to this hymn are so powerful. It is such a true testimony of our Savior and Redeemer.
I was able to accompany three beautiful women who sang this song. We didn't have a lot of time, so I didn't make a whole lot of changes to the hymn. It is a very simple arrangement, but still powerful, I thought. Each woman sang a solo, which really felt like they were singing their own personal testimony, and they also sang together in parts which made the "testimony" even more powerful. I wish I had their beautiful voices singing the beautiful words on my recording. Maybe I'll be able to do that sometime soon. But, for now, I just layered a piano voice for the singers.
Since I've been working on this song so much lately it has become one of my favorite hymns. The words verify everything I feel and know when I think of my Savior. And I can't say it any better than it is written.

"He lives, my kind, wise heav'nly Friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while he lives, I'll sing.
He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King."

"He lives and grants me daily breath.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there."

"Oh, sweet the joy this sentence gives: 'I know that my Redeemer lives!'"

Our Savior's Love

"Our Savior's love shines like the sun with perfect light.
As from above it breaks thru clouds of strife.
Lighting our way, it leads us back into his sight,
where we may stay to share eternal life."

What a beautiful hymn. These words say it all.
I wrote this hymn arrangement a few years ago. I enjoyed composing songs, but my sister-in-law encouraged me to create a hymn arrangement and this was the hymn that came to my mind. It is such a beautiful melody and the message is just as beautiful.
Our Savior loves us. He died for us. And He lives! He will always be there for us. When we feel like we are at our lowest point, or in our darkest hour, we are NEVER alone. Not ever. The Savior is there with us, always. If we will let Him, his love will break away the darkness and bring us warm light and we will know what to do next and which way to turn.
He wants us to live eternally with him and He will show us the way. He is the way.
